Title: Business Development Manager

Reports to: Head of Sales

Based at: Head Office - Cardiff (With some flexibility for remote working)

Hours: 37.5 per week. Due to the nature of the role some flexibility is required regarding working outside core business hours.

Salary: Salary dependent on experience

Summary of role

We are looking for an experienced salesperson with a proven track record of sales delivery within the construction industry. A driven individual who is keen to actively seek out and maximise sales opportunities by establishing, developing, and maintaining positive business and customer relationships with house builders, consultants and developers.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • Analyse existing and potential customer base to identify and secure business development opportunities.
  • Build and maintain new customer enquiry pipeline through prospecting via, cold calling, written communication and face to face meetings.
  • Maximising sales opportunities across products and services offered.
  • Follow up all leads self-discovered or existing from introduction to conclusion.
  • Issue proposals and perform follow up communications with customers within defined timescales.
  • Establish, develop and maintain positive business and customer relationships while acting as the main point of contact from enquiry through to acceptance status.
  • Provide management information relating to all aspects of sales performance at weekly and monthly meetings.
  • Identify and explore new business streams, including participation in regional and national sales events.
  • Coordinate sales effort with team members and other departments within the business.
  • Keep abreast of best practices and promotional trends, utilising external systems such as LinkedIn etc.
  • Stay informed about competitor activities and market trends.
  • Adhere to all stated company policies and procedures.
  • Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills and actively manage their continuous professional development.

The ideal candidate is organised, reliable, adaptable, and personable. They should be able to work independently with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail. The candidate should be well-presented, responsible, accountable, and eager to gain new experiences. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with new customers and stakeholders are essential.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous work experience as a Business Development Manager, or in a similar role.
  • Highly motivated and target driven with a proven track record in sales.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate using different mediums with and to sell to all appropriate levels within the market up to and including Director level.
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative, or with minimal support.
  • Willingness to work flexibly to meet the reasonable needs of the Company.
  • Ability to be adaptable and to sell technically based solutions and services.
  • A good working knowledge of IT systems and Microsoft packages.
  • An excellent standard of numeracy and literacy and ability to construct professional written correspondence to all stakeholders.
  • A valid UK driving licence.
